Proposal to increase primary school places within the Alwoodley area
Leeds City Council is consulting on a proposal to expand Allerton Church of England Primary School from a capacity of 420 to 630 pupils by permanently increasing the admission limit in reception from 60 to 90 pupils from September 2018. The consultation period commences on Monday 26 June 2017 and closes on Friday 21 July 2017 at 4pm. During this time we will be having some drop-in sessions at the school for parents, carers and residents to learn more about the proposal and ask any questions they may have. The format of the drop-in sessions is informal, with officers from the Sufficiency and Participation (school place planning), Built Environment and Highways teams in attendance to discuss any queries you may have about the proposals. You may attend any of the drop-in sessions between the start and finish times.

Saltaire visit
After studying David Hockney’s painting of Saltaire, we visited the village for ourselves. We loved seeing the real painting and we were shocked at how large it was. We then found all the features of the painting in real life and compared them to how they look in the picture. We decided David Hockney certainly uses more exciting colours than the ones we saw!
We we enjoyed exploring the historic village; drawing the bandstand, walking the cobbled streets and Helen even found her own road-Helen Street!

Habitat survey
As part of our habitats work we have completed two habitat surveys. First we had a visit from the RSPB and surveyed the school grounds for its potential for wildlife.
On our survey short grass appeared quite a lot. We decided to have a closer look and found out that actually there were many species of plants on the school field, not just grass! These included clover, plantain, buttercup and yarrow.
Joshua’s crazy maths trick
Joshua asked me to write any 5 digit number in the middle box.
He them guessed the total he would make by adding together five 5 digit numbers and wrote it on a piece of paper.
I was then asked to write the numbers 0-9 in top two rows in any order.
Finally he completed the bottom two rows adding the digits 0-9.
I was amazed when I calculated the total and found Joshua had the total write on his piece of paper!
Like a true magician he has not revealed his secret and I am busy trying to work out his method ( the numbers at the bottom is me trying to crack it!)
