After studying David Hockney in art, we visited Saltaire. We enjoyed seeing his exhibition ‘The Arrival of Spring.’ We also looked around the historic Saltaire comparing it to a landscape of the village that Hockney painted.
Thank you to all the mums and dads that came along to support us on sports day and well done to Birkdale who came out as the winners. There were so many close races and lots of smiles!
Year 2 dived into health week participating in a walk to the woods, hand wash workshops, running a mile, scooter challenge and lots of healthy eating activities.
We looked at the young different animals have.
We found out many different animals lay eggs.
Reptiles, amphibians, fish and insects are cold blooded so they can leave their eggs in the ground or water. However birds are warm blooded so need to sit on their eggs up until they are ready to hatch.
We kept our egg warm for the afternoon by taking turns to sit on the nest!
Year 2 had to go on a quest this week to rescue the colours. the colour thief had stolen all the colours from the world leaving only darkness!
We rowed across seas, trekked jungles and climbed mountains. Eventually we found the Colour Thief’s layer.
We used our best observation skills to identify the dispersal methods used by different seeds.
Year 2 were asked to make a felt pin badge, showing what may grow from the ALIEN SEEDLINGS in Sean Tan’s Eric. Unsurprisingly many of us decided to make terrifying aliens!
I would like to say a huge Well done to the class for their hard work preparing for our class assembly. Thank you to all the parents, grandparents etc who came to watch; it really does make it special for your children!
We made our own Frog Bellies this week.
We patched, buttoned, sewed and zipped just like in the story!
